I knew when the next non-Pro AirPods were announced, I was going to purchase a pair for myself and my wife. Not because my Gen 2 models are bad, they are actually doing pretty great, but I knew whatever the new design Apple introduced were going to be better.

Rumors of a Pro-like designed 3rd Generation AirPods have been floating around for a while, which made me very excited. The only thing I didn’t like about the AirPods Pro were the rubber tips that went in your ear. Removing that but keeping the same shape and smaller stem was something I was very much looking forward too.

So, when Apple’s recent Unleashed Event (MacBook Pro Event) started out talking about Apple Music and the HomePod mini, I knew it was a good sign. Then they announced the exact rumored AirPods that I was hoping for. I immediately put an order for two pairs once the event ended.

Now that I have them, I will say that all my assumptions were correct in me liking them much more than both the 2nd Gen and Pro models. Of course, once some reviews started coming out by others who either got review units or received theirs before me, I started to get a bit concerned. I should know by now that headphones fit everyone differently and AirPods especially take some time to adapt too, but some concerns were creeping about.

For instance, Lance Ulanoff, who ultimately had a positive review for the AirPods, did have some issues at first with one of them staying in his ear. At the end of his review he felt that it was not an issue after using them for an extended period but still this had me a little concerned. The current AirPods sort of just sit in my ears, but I was unsure how the shape of my ears would fit these new designs.

Like I said before, I felt the AirPods Pro fit good in my ear, minus the rubber tips that made my inner ear really sore after some time. I was confident that the new AirPods would feel even better.
